The Foundation for the Conservation of the Maltese Honey Bee is proudly celebrating World Bee Day 2026 with the launch of two brand-new English educational songs that continue its mission of promoting environmental awareness, pollinator conservation, and early childhood learning through music and storytelling.

This year’s celebrations mark another important milestone for the Foundation as it expands the reach of its much-loved Maltese educational songs to international audiences, allowing even more children to discover the importance of bees, pollinators, and Malta’s unique natural heritage.

Two New English Songs Launched

To celebrate World Bee Day 2026, the Foundation is officially launching Pollinators Celebrating Love and Nature’s Masterpieces (The Song of the Maltese National Species), the English adaptations of the popular Maltese songs Festin Għad-Dakkara and In-Naħla u Sħabha.

Pollinators Celebrating Love

Written by Rita Pace, composed by Augusto Cardinali, and performed by Christabelle Scerri, Pollinators Celebrating Love transforms the fascinating process of pollination into a joyful celebration where flowers and pollinators come together in harmony. Through lively melodies, imaginative storytelling, and playful lyrics, children are introduced to the important role played by bees, butterflies, flies, wasps, birds, and other pollinators in sustaining ecosystems and food production.

The song continues the adventures of Katerina the Honey Bee, the Foundation’s beloved mascot for pollinator awareness, while encouraging children to appreciate and protect the natural world around them.

Nature’s Masterpieces

The second release, Nature’s Masterpieces (The Song of the Maltese National Species), written and composed by Michael Piscopo and performed by Claire Marie Busuttil, celebrates Malta’s six officially recognised national species in a fun, educational, and memorable way.

The song introduces children to the Maltese Honey Bee, the Mediterranean Killifish, the Blue Rock-Thrush, the Maltese Rock-Centaury, the Maltese Freshwater Crab, and the Sandarac Gum Tree. Guided once again by Katerina the Honey Bee, young listeners are encouraged to explore Malta’s countryside, respect biodiversity, and take pride in the natural treasures found across the Maltese Islands.

Developed with pedagogical guidance from Professor Suzanne Piscopo, the English version supports vocabulary development, environmental education, and early learning for children aged 5 to 8.

Completing the English Trilogy

Earlier this year, the Foundation also released Katerina the Honey Bee (Bizz Bizz Bizz), the English adaptation of the much-loved Maltese song In-Naħla Katerina. Written and composed by Michael Piscopo and performed by Phyllisienne Brincat, the song was generously sponsored by the HSBC Malta Foundation.

Designed for children aged 0 to 6 years, the song combines music, rhythm, and storytelling to teach young audiences about the Maltese Honey Bee (Apis mellifera ruttneri) and its importance for pollination, biodiversity, and food production.

Together, these three English adaptations now form a complete educational trilogy that promotes conservation, language development, and appreciation for nature through creative and engaging music.

Education Through Music and Conservation

The Foundation for the Conservation of the Maltese Honey Bee continues to believe that music is one of the most effective ways to inspire children and families to care for the environment. Through repetition, rhythm, storytelling, and memorable characters such as Katerina the Honey Bee, these songs help children build vocabulary, strengthen early literacy skills, and develop a lifelong respect for biodiversity and conservation.

As World Bee Day 2026 is celebrated around the world, the Foundation hopes these songs will continue spreading awareness about the importance of pollinators while encouraging children everywhere to become future guardians of nature.
