The Foundation for the Conservation of the Maltese Honey Bee successfully organised the second edition of its Apicul-Tour experience open for public last Saturday, 20 June 2026. Timed to coincide with Father’s Day celebrations, the event offered participants a unique opportunity to discover the fascinating world of the Maltese Honey Bee (Apis mellifera ruttneri), Malta’s National Insect!

Building on the success of the inaugural Apicul-Tour held earlier this year, the second edition welcomed participants for an immersive experience led by expert beekeepers. Everyone was provided with protective equipment and guided through an active apiary, where they observed honey bees at work and gained first-hand insight into the organisation of the hive, the role of pollinators, and the importance of conserving Malta’s unique bee heritage. The event concluded with a short honey-tasting experience.
A special thank you to our session host and guide, the highly experienced beekeeper Michael Angelo Muscat, for sharing his knowledge and passion!
