The Foundation is delighted to announce that its project, “Katerina and Friends: Songs for the Maltese Honey Bee and Pollinators”, has been nominated for the prestigious Premju Għall-Arti 2026, organised by Arts Council Malta, in the category Best Project for Children and Young Audiences! The Premju Għall-Arti 2026 awards ceremony will take place on Friday, 4 December 2026, at Teatru Manoel, celebrating outstanding achievements in Malta’s arts and cultural sectors.

Through music, storytelling and colourful animation, the project introduces children to the endemic Maltese Honey Bee, pollinators, biodiversity and the importance of environmental conservation. The nomination recognises an innovative educational and artistic initiative that brings together five original songs released between 1st September 2025 and 31st August 2026:
- Katerina the Honey Bee
- In-Naħla u Sħabha
- Nature’s Masterpieces
- Pollinators Celebrating Love
- Bizz Bizz Bizz
Produced in both Maltese and English, the songs seek to inspire curiosity, appreciation and a sense of responsibility towards Malta’s natural heritage, while making environmental education accessible and enjoyable for children of different ages.
This nomination would not have been possible without the talent, creativity and dedication of our wonderful collaborators: Michael Piscopo, Suzanne Piscopo, Phyllisienne Brincat, Claire Marie Busuttil, Rita Pace, Augusto Cardinali and Christabelle Scerri. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to each of them for helping bring Katerina and her friends to life!
We are equally grateful for the generous financial support received through the Small Initiatives Support Scheme (SIS), managed by the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector (MCVS), supported by the Ministry for Inclusion and the Voluntary Sector; the HSBC Malta Foundation, which sponsored Katerina the Honey Bee; and APIVITA, which supported the production of the Bizz Bizz Bizz video.
Regardless of the outcome, this nomination is already a tremendous honour for the Foundation and everyone involved! It is a meaningful recognition of how artistic expression can contribute to conservation, environmental education and the appreciation of Malta’s unique natural heritage.
Congratulations to all our collaborators, and thank you to everyone who continues to support our mission of inspiring future generations to care for the Maltese Honey Bee and our environment!
