Discover Benna's Collaborative Initiative for Maltese Bees

We are proud to announce a meaningful collaboration between the Foundation for the Conservation of the Maltese Honey Bee and Benna (Malta Dairy Products Ltd). Through this initiative, Benna milk cartons will feature a dedicated panel promoting not only local honey, but Maltese Honey made by the local and endemic Maltese Honey Bee.

This collaboration brings national attention to one of Malta’s most important native pollinators and National Insect, raising awareness among thousands of households every day. By connecting a staple product like fresh milk with the story of our endemic honey bee, we hope to inspire greater appreciation for local biodiversity and encourage support for sustainable, locally sourced honey made by the Maltese Honey Bee. And for that extra sweet touch, try combining milk with Maltese Honey Bee honey to experience the perfect balance of freshness and natural sweetness.

The Maltese Honey Bee plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy ecosystems and supporting agriculture. Together with Benna, we are taking a small but impactful step toward ensuring this unique subspecies continues to thrive for generations to come. This initiative follows the Buy Local Honey, Made by Local Honey Bees! campaign launched by the Foundation, which was part of a wider European campaign. It builds on the wider message to choose authentic regional products and protect native honey bees.

By choosing local produce and supporting initiatives like this, the public can actively contribute to conservation efforts. Buying Maltese honey made by the Maltese Honey Bee helps safeguard biodiversity, supports local beekeepers and preserves an irreplaceable part of Malta’s natural heritage.
