The Foundation for the Conservation of the Maltese Honey Bee is delighted to announce the release of Bizz Bizz Bizz, a special early-years version of Katerina the Honey Bee, created especially for babies and toddlers.
Sponsored by APIVITA, this joyful song introduces very young children to the busy world of honey bees through simple words, repetition, rhythm and playful sounds. Its catchy “bizz bizz bizz” refrain invites little listeners to follow Katerina as she searches for flowers, calls her sisters, dances to show them where food can be found, collects nectar, pollinates flowers and returns to the hive to help make honey.
Written by Rita Pace, composed and musically arranged by Augusto Cardinali, and performed by Christabelle Scerri, Bizz Bizz Bizz presents its educational message in a gentle and age-appropriate way. The project was directed and produced by Abner Joe Buttigieg and Dylan Farrugia, who also designed the accompanying video.
Rather than explaining pollination through complex language, the song uses movement, sound and repetition, making it particularly suitable for babies, toddlers, nursery settings and early-childhood activities.
Through Katerina’s cheerful journey, children encounter important ideas such as teamwork, communication, caring for nature and the connection between flowers, nectar, bees and honey. The repeated lyrics encourage young children to participate, remember key words and enjoy the rhythm while beginning to recognise honey bees as busy and helpful creatures with an essential role in the natural world.
The song also introduces children to the bees’ remarkable waggle dance. By dancing, Katerina gives her sisters directions and shows them where flowers and food can be found. In this simple and playful way, Bizz Bizz Bizz transforms the fascinating behaviour of honey bees into an enjoyable learning experience for the earliest years.
Made Possible Through APIVITA’s Support
The production of Bizz Bizz Bizz was sponsored by APIVITA as part of its renewed commitment to the Foundation’s conservation and educational work, supported locally by Metropolis Pharma Ltd.
Through a further sponsorship, APIVITA supported the production of this early-years song and video, together with five additional beehives of the Maltese Honey Bee. These were added to the five beehives previously sponsored by the company, bringing APIVITA’s total support to ten beehives.
This collaboration reflects APIVITA’s wider Billion Bees Programme and its commitment through 1% for the Planet, supporting initiatives that protect bees, biodiversity and the natural environment.
By combining direct conservation work with education, the collaboration helps protect Malta’s endemic honey bee, Apis mellifera ruttneri, while nurturing appreciation for bees and nature among the youngest generation.
Bizz Bizz Bizz celebrates the beauty of learning through music. It invites children to buzz, move, sing and discover Katerina’s world in a fun and accessible way, helping to foster love and respect for bees and the natural world from the earliest age.
