Katerina the Maltese Honey Bee is buzzing back into Sagħtar magazine for a second edition of stories from Id-Djarju ta’ Katerina, continuing the collaboration between the Foundation for the Conservation of the Maltese Honey Bee and the Sagħtar Foundation.

The series first appeared during the 2025–2026 scholastic year, bringing Katerina’s adventures to young readers through engaging stories combining nature, education and awareness of Malta’s natural heritage. The stories build on the educational themes surrounding Katerina, the Foundation’s Maltese Honey Bee mascot, while introducing children to other native and national species.
The first story of this second edition has already been published in the October 2026 issue of Sagħtar, entitled “Katerina u l-Inkwiet ta’ Widnet il-Baħar”. The story was co-authored by Foundation Administrator Abner Joe Buttigieg and Dylan Farrugia. An excerpt from the story reads:
Bl-eċitament perpirt ġwinħajja iktar, u f’kemm ili ngħidlek wasalt ħdejha… mingħalija! Għax xħin wasalt indunajt li l-petali tal-fjuri li rajt veru kienu vjola, bħal ta’ Widnet il-Baħar, imma ma kinitx hi. Lanqas nektar jew trab tad-dakra ma kellhom il-fjuri! Kif tfixkilt!

Continuing the inclusive approach adopted for Id-Djarju ta’ Katerina, an audio version of the story is also available, beautifully read by Foundation supporter Martina Ciantar, allowing even more young readers to enjoy Katerina’s latest adventure.
The Foundation also extends its thanks to Christopher Giordano, editor of Sagħtar magazine, for his continued support and collaboration in bringing Katerina’s stories to young readers across Malta.
And this is only the beginning… more stories from Katerina’s Diary are coming throughout this second edition!
