On 23rd June 2025, the students of Kulleġġ San Ġorġ Preca Primarja Floriana experienced a memorable blend of music, learning, and nature thanks to a special visit by popular Maltese singer Christabelle Scerri. As the voice behind the newly released children’s song Festin Għad-Dakkara, Christabelle led an engaging session that celebrated Malta’s pollinators while promoting environmental awareness and language development.
With her warm stage presence and expressive vocals, Christabelle captivated the young audience through a performance of Festin Għad-Dakkara — a vibrant and playful song that brings the world of bees, flies, and other pollinators to life. The students eagerly joined in, singing and moving along to the rhythm, transforming the school hall into a buzzing celebration of biodiversity.
Beyond the music, Christabelle took the time to speak directly to the children about the importance of the Maltese Honey Bee in our ecosystem. She asked questions, encouraged them to share their knowledge, and helped them understand how the Maltese Honey Bee plays an essential role in the production of the fruits and flowers we enjoy every day.
As part of the session, students also listened to In-Naħla Katerina, the first song in the trilogy, which was released on World Bee Day (20th May 2025). Performed by Phyllisienne Brincat, this earlier song introduces children to Katerina the Bee, a friendly character inspired by Malta’s endemic honey bee, Apis mellifera ruttneri. Together, the two songs offered the children a complete and age-appropriate introduction to pollination and biodiversity, through music and storytelling.
Festin Għad-Dakkara, written by Rita Pace and composed by Augusto Cardinali, cleverly presents pollination as a cheerful wedding — a “festin” — between flowers and pollinators, with Katerina the Bee playing the role of joyful matchmaker. Christabelle’s performance brought this narrative to life, encouraging the children to imagine how insects help plants grow and why we must take care of nature.
The entire event was filmed by TVM and later featured on L-Aħbarijiet tat-8pm, the national news programme, on 26th June 2025. The segment showcased highlights from Christabelle’s visit and the students’ enthusiastic participation — a proud moment for the school and a wonderful example of how music can be used as an educational tool.
Christabelle’s presence was not only uplifting but also profoundly impactful. Her ability to connect with children and deliver meaningful content through music reinforced the project’s goals of promoting both environmental consciousness and the Maltese language in a fun and memorable way.
As the initiative prepares to launch its third and final song later this year, Christabelle’s visit to Floriana stands out as a shining example of how artists can inspire learning, foster curiosity, and plant seeds of awareness in the next generation.
