Updated | Championing the Maltese Honey Bee: The Foundation at Festa Fjuri 2026

The Foundation is delighted to share that we it has been invited to take part in the Festa Fjuri 2026 organised by L-Iklin Local Council, for the second consecutive year running!

Join us on Saturday 16th May from 10.30-10.50am at Ġuże Ellul Mercer Street and Ninu Cremona Square in Iklin for a 20-minute talk by the Foundation’s administrator Dylan Farrugia, to find out more about the remarkable insect behind one of Malta’s most treasured natural products; the Maltese Honey Bee (Apis mellifera ruttneri). This unique subspecies, endemic to the Maltese Islands, is also proudly recognised as Malta’s National Insect.

Yesterday, Saturday 16th May, the Foundation was invited to deliver a short talk at Festa Fjuri 2026!

Shout out to the Iklin Scout Group and their leaders for their participation in the festival, and for joining us for the talk during which we shared Katerina the Honey Bee postcards with those present!

The Foundation wishes to congratulate Kunsill Lokali L-Iklin for the successful organisation of this festival!
