Updated | Advancing Sustainable Beekeeping: The Foundation Championing the Maltese Honey Bee at the EcoHoney Conference 2026

The Foundation for the Conservation of the Maltese Honey Bee has been invited to participate and give a speech at the EcoHoney Conference 2026. Taking place on April 13th, 2026, at the Malta Chamber of Commerce, the conference will run from 09:00 to 11:30 AM. The Foundation will be represented by its co-founder and administrator Dylan Farrugia, who will deliver a talk at 10:00 AM.

This Conference marks the culmination of the EcoHoney project, an initiative focused on promoting sustainable practices in beekeeping education. The EcoHoney Project is a European initiative aimed at supporting sustainable, environmentally responsible beekeeping. It focuses on equipping stakeholders with modern knowledge and training resources. By encouraging biodiversity-friendly practices, EcoHoney helps protect vital pollinators, case in point Malta’s own endemic native honey bee and now its National Insect the Maltese Honey Bee, while ensuring the long-term viability of apiculture.

Attendees will be able to learn more about the project’s objectives i.e. the production of digital learning courses. Participation in the conference is free of charge.

This event is organised by the Malta Business Bureau in collaboration with the HSBC Malta Foundation, and is funded by the European Union. The Foundation would like to express its sincere gratitude to the Malta Business Bureau for the invitation to participate in this event.

During his intervention, the Foundation’s speaker, Dylan Farrugia, emphasised that the sustainability of local beekeeping can only be achieved through the conservation of the local honey bee; specifically in the Maltese context, the Maltese Honey Bee, Malta’s National Insect.
