After the successful launch of the educational video titled “Unique Insect: The Maltese Honey Bee,” the Foundation for Conservation of the Maltese Honey Bee (KNM) is pleased to unveil the design of four roll-up banners which are also funded through the Small Initiatives Support Scheme (SIS), managed by the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector (MCVS) and supported by the Ministry for Inclusion and the Voluntary Sector (MIV). These banners aim to promote the Maltese Honey Bee and initiatives by the Foundation.

The first banner features an image of the Maltese Honey Bee on Sticky Fleabane (Dittrichia viscosa) flowers, captured by Monica Arong Darmanin, a student at MCAST who contributed her corporate social responsibility (CSR) hours to our Foundation.

The second roll-up banner showcases the endemic Maltese Honey Bee on a flower of the indigenous Mediterranean Thistle (Galactites tomentosa). This banner aims to support the Foundation’s initiative to have the endemic honey bee designated as the National Insect of Malta. The photograph was originally taken by Abner Joe Buttigieg and is featured on a stamp issued by Maltapost p.l.c. in 2019.

The third banner displays the Maltese Honey Bee near a puddle of water, photographed by Niki Alexander Mallia, another MCAST student who dedicated CSR hours to our Foundation.

The fourth banner portrays the Maltese Honey Bee with its pollen basket loaded with pollen on a Common Asphodel (Asphodelus ramosus) flower. This banner aims to promote our newly released video “Unique Insect: The Maltese Honey Bee”. Viewers can watch this video by scanning the QR code provided on the banner. The photograph, also taken by Abner Joe Buttigieg, is part of the stamp collection mentioned earlier.

These roll-up banners not only highlight the beauty of the Maltese Honey Bee but also support our future outreach efforts to raise awareness and garner support for its conservation in Malta.
