Apiculture, the Maltese Islands and its Endemic Honey Bee; A Brief Video featuring Co-Founder Dylan Farrugia

We proudly share this informative video on maltese apiculture. One of our Co-Founders, Dylan Farrugia, is also featured and talks briefly on the intimate connection between Apiculture and the Maltese islands. The Maltese honey bee is the principal link in this chain.

Unfortunately, some of the figures mentioned have become redundant over the past few months due to the increased presence of the ‘Vespa orientalis‘, which during the summer of 2022 decimated the Maltese apiculture industry.

This issue, and others, including hybridization, has put an already fragile sector under even more pressure. Its sustainability, and the maintaining of future ecological services provided by the Maltese honey bee, will greatly depend on how we will be able to affectively conserve it.

We congratulate Marc Balagué Camps and his colleagues for this wonderful informative feature!
